HOUSEHOLDS, public servants and the Commonwealth Government will underpin Treasurer Kevin Foley's two-year "pathway to surplus".
Wage increases for public servants will be limited to 2.5 per cent, a modest
increase that Mr Foley said will still be above general wage growth, but will
deliver $290 million of savings.
Revenue collected from higher fees and charges - including water charges and
court fees - will be 14 per cent higher than the Government's last Budget.
Registration and public transport charges will rise by about 4 per cent, but
households will face a 14 per cent jump in water charges based on a 36 per cent
jump in usage charges and a 13 per cent cut to the supply charge. Compulsory
third party insurance will also rise by about 8.3 per cent to $444.
