LIVELY FORUM ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY
The removal of a prime
minister, This was the theme of a lively and forthright address by Philip Benwell MBE., national chairman of the Australian Monarchist League, to a public forum arranged by One Nation in Adelaide on June 27. Mr. Benwell clearly implied that while it was understandable that the public no longer trusted politicians for a variety of reasons, the pressure exerted by non-elected trade unionists under the electoral system to remove an elected politician should have provoked public outrage.
Instead, the public just
accepted that it was another political dirty trick and didn't give a
second thought to the implications of what had happened to Kevin Rudd. Mr. Benwell (pictured at right) said that if the elected parliamentary Labor party itself decided Mr. Rudd should go that would have been acceptable but this was not the case. The decision had been made by trade unions, which used their power and influence over Labor politician to tell them what to do. "Most people need to think about the way Mr. Rudd was removed and hear the alarm bells about what is happening in Australia and what would happen if we ever became a republic." "The new Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, is a dedicated republican and the government's determination to make Australia a republic is as strong as ever." "The Labor government in Victoria in particular continues to remove photos of the Queen and of the Crown and displays of the prefix Royal at every opportunity, with other Labor states doing the same." The undemocratic removal of Mr. Rudd was obviously seen by the Labor movement as a measure they could get away with, especially following the deceptions and disreputable practices of the Labor Party during an actual election in South Australia last March. Mr. Benwell said it was not difficult to imagine what a wholly political system of government that would come with a republic could get away with if the protections provided by the present Constitutional Monarchy system of government were ever lost. "From the president down, all layers of government would be controlled by politicians, without any of the checks and balances and safeguards that apply at all times by having a Constitutional Monarchy system of government. "The public needs to realise that having a Constitutional Monarchy, headed symbolically by the Queen, protects everyone from excessive control by politicians. "Because the Australian Constitution is founded on Constitutional Monarchy the people, all types or organisations and businesses can and do appeal to our courts for rulings against government decisions. "This protection would disappear if we became a republic." A tape of Mr Benwell's address and of question time is now available at no cost. However please include $5.00 for postage and packing. It’s Over For Rudd : Andrew Bolt 9th June 2010 KEVIN Rudd is finished. Few voters now want to hear him, and fewer
still believe him. They see through Rudd now and he can never recover. It’s over. Labor itself admitted this hard truth on Monday, after the Nielsen
survey showed the Rudd Government heading for a landslide defeat, with
just 47 per cent support to the Coalition’s 53. Rudd himself and half a dozen of his ministers all responded to this
news with an identical and workshopped line - suggesting that however
bad you thought Rudd, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott surely had to be
worse. Or as the Prime Minister put it: "If what we see in the polls today
is reflected on election day, Mr Abbott would be the next Prime Minister
of Australia ... I don’t believe Australian families are prepared to
risk their future with Tony Abbott." This now is Labor’s central election pitch, a last-ditch attempt to
tear down Abbott with anything they can think of. He’s Catholic. He’s "phony Tony". He’s the "mad monk". He wears lycra.
He hates women. He’ll take away your penalty rates. That, I’m afraid, is all Labor has got left. It cannot sell Rudd, and
must hope instead to destroy Abbott, which leaves the election to be
decided essentially on how well Abbott can survive the battering. Will he rise serenely above it, as then Labor leader Mark Latham
managed to do - until finally blowing up only just before election day
in 2004? Will he calmly turn each attack back on to a panicky Government, as
Rudd himself did with Abbott’s character will be the issue, and the last remaining question
for him to answer to become prime minister. The election is now for him to lose by over-reaching, stumbling,
lashing out, thinking out aloud, or once more publicly indulging his
private self-doubts, whether by confessing too much or asserting too
little. If he dared (and he should), his next move would be to make a show of
transition to government, by, for instance, commissioning a report from
a "triage committee" of management experts and former public service
bosses to go through each of Rudd’s programs to see which are too
hopeless to save and which might yet be made to work.
Just seven weeks ago he finally persuaded the states to sign up to
what he sold as "the biggest health reform since Medicare" - a
centrepiece of his case for re-election.
He spent billions of your dollars bribing the premiers to sign up.
He’s since spent millions more on Government commercials to persuade you
of his triumph. Yet how many of you can recall what this "health reform" actually is?
What’s more, like so many other Rudd schemes it’s a dodgy recipe
that’s half-baked besides. Western Australia still hasn’t agreed to the
deal, which experts warn is little better than an underfinanced game of pass-the-buck, anyway. Even the Government lost faith in the thing, and within days this
"biggest health reform since Medicare" became yesterday’s forgotten
news, mere dust in Rudd’s hands. Indeed, everything Rudd touches seems to turn to muck. Expensive
muck, too, with the Building the Education Revolution rorts, ceiling
insulation disaster and boat people bungling alone wasting an estimated
$8 billion. Now Rudd is in a death struggle with miners over his "super profits"
tax to raise the $9 billion a year he needs to wipe out the deficit he
recklessly contracted to "save" us from a recession that didn’t hit us
as hard as he predicted and didn’t stay as long as he predicted, either.
And once again, he cannot sell his "reform", not even with the $38
million of your money he pinched for yet more advertising. The more he
talks about his new tax, the less people believe in it. Rudd’s complete lack of authority now is astonishing. Newspoll says it’s never seen a prime minister lose so much
credibility so fast, and merely mentioning his name on the last two
episodes of the ABC’s Q&A panel show had been enough to prompt howls of
mocking laughter from an audience normally far to the Left. Naturally, much of this is blamed on Rudd’s Waterloo - his ditching
of the emissions trading scheme he’d rashly sold as the urgent answer to
global warming, "the great moral and economic issue of our times". But doubts about Rudd now go not just to his character and honesty,
but to his most basic competence in simply running a government.
It cannot be mere coincidence that Rudd has failed even in diplomacy,
his one area of expertise, with relations with key allies such as
Japan, India, Singapore, Israel and Indonesia all cooler.
Unbelievably, this Mandarin-speaking Sinophile who once claimed he
could be China’s "intermediary" with the West even faces the fallout now
of having called its already bemused leaders "f-----s" who were trying
to "rat-f---" us. In fact, so incompetent is Rudd’s Government that it couldn’t even be
trusted to commission mugs to celebrate the visit of US President Barack
Obama. Not only is the visit cancelled, but the official mugs
commemorate a "Barrack". I repeat, this near-perfect record of bungling cannot be a
coincidence. And, indeed, the common thread to it is Rudd’s fear - his fear of
delegating, his fear of taking advice from smarter people, his fear of
conceding flaws, his fear of letting his ministers have free rein, his
fear of acknowledging any agendas other than his own, his fear of hiring
advisers of adult age, his fear of not seeming across every irrelevant
detail, his fear of not seeming great. It’s Rudd’s deep insecurity that has killed his leadership, and which
explains his often childish need to assert himself, whether by putting
his boots on your coffee table, explaining he’s "your Prime Minister" or
hogging the microphone at his endless "community Cabinet meetings", at
which busy ministers serve as props to his vanity. This insecurity explains, too, his outbursts of anger, which Fairfax
writer David Marr, in a widely discussed essay this week, wrongly
claimed was the "core emotion" driving him. No, insecurity is Rudd’s core emotion. Anger is just what you get
when such an insecure man is threatened, thwarted or belittled. Still, Marr’s essay will confirm for many that the exterior Rudd -
meticulous, churchy, cool - is a sham, and there’s little real about a
pious Prime Minister who is privately foul-mouthed, rude, inconsiderate
and disliked by many who work with him.
There is no new guise he can assume that won’t be judged as fake as
the last. And constructing a genuine Rudd is - I’d guess - tragically
impossible, at least this side of an election. A brave party would ditch Rudd now, while it still can. Remember the
price the Liberals paid for failing to blast out the spent John Howard?
But while he is still there, Labor is forced to turn to its last,
bitter hope - not selling Rudd but destroying Abbott. The question voters will be asked is: won’t Abbott be worse? Labor’s problem is: is worse even possible? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ HON PETER LEWIS
The Hon Peter Lewis at the invitation of
the State Executive attended the last State Executive meeting on the 2nd
March 2010. Peter was elected to the House of Assembly as member for Mallee on the 15th September 1979 and continued continuously as a member of the House of Assembly until the 17th March 2009, having completed nearly 30 years as a member of the South Australian parliament. Peter was Speaker of the House of Assembly from the 5th March 2002 to the 4th April 2005. He also convened the SA Constitutional Convention in 2003.
Peter was asked many questions, and
touched on the forthcoming State Election and many issues that effect
South Australia. Voluntary
euthanasia bill defeated in SA Parliament JOANNA VAUGHAN ADELAIDE NOW REPORTER, November 18, 2009 09:15am PROPOSED legislation to allow voluntary euthanasia in South Australia was narrowly defeated in State Parliament early this morning. The bill, introduced by Greens MLC Mark Parnell, was defeated by 11 votes to 9, with Independent MLC Ann Bressington abstaining. While anti-euthanasia advocates have hailed the outcome as a win for common sense, Mr Parnell said it was a big disappointment for those in the community who had been striving for the law reform over many years. "To have the Bill voted down is such a big disappointment, especially for all those in the community who have been striving for this law reform over many years," he said. "Yet, to come so close is a sure sign that one day, very soon, the South Australian Parliament will pass death with dignity laws. "This is by no means the last time this issue will come before the Upper House. I intend to work with other supporters of VE to have another try next year after the March 2010 election. "The vast majority of South Australians want Voluntary Euthanasia law reform. I strongly believe its just a matter of time before compassionate legislation is passed in our state." Mr Parnell said he would reintroduce the bill after the State election in March next year. State Secretary of the Australian Family Association Damian Wyld said common sense had prevailed. "Heavens knows where we could have ended up with such a scheme," he said. "The failed bill was a shocker. Family First MLC Dennis Hood who voted against the bill said it was poorly drafted and had many serious defects. "I am grateful that members listened to my concerns and made the decision on conscience to oppose the bill," he said. "I have revealed a number of loopholes in the bill including that it would have allowed dentists to perform euthanasia, allowed euthanasia to be performed on patients without a terminal illness and allowed people to take out life insurance policies shortly before undergoing euthanasia." **********************************************

"Experts say greatest threat to the world is food production on land and
in the water. (From ABC on line 25/10/2009) " A food production expert says Australia may face a massive famine
if governments fail to address an impending global food shortage. A
conference of food productivity experts in Sydney this week heard the
greatest threat to the world is not climate change, but food production
on land and in the water. Science communicator Julian Cribb, an adjunct
professor at the University of Technology Sydney, made a keynote address
at the seminar saying there is expected to be about 9.2 billion people
in the world in 2050, barring wars or major accidents. But Professor
Cribb says that population will create an alarming problem - there
simply will not be enough food to go round. "Basically what the world
has not noticed is that hunger has been sneaking up on us for quite a
while," he told ABC News Online. "Population is growing and demand for
food is rising. "Governments have had it so good for so long - the world
has had plenty of food - they have become complacent and ignorant.
"Climate change is going to get worse and worse, but the food problems
are going to be in the next two to three decades. "I'm warning now
because it takes about a generation to develop new technologies and get
them out broadscale. We need to take action now about these things.
"Treasury head Ken Henry this week said that Australia's population
growth is the biggest challenge to Commonwealth and state governments
since Federation. Professor Cribb agrees it will cause problems, and
says governments must not forget future famine goes hand in hand with
population growth. "They have grossly underestimated the potential for
population growth in Australia," he said. "If you get a major collapse
in food supply in an area like the north China plains or the Indo-Gangetic
plains, there will be hundreds of millions of refugees cut lose so we
could easily see 20 or 30 million refugees arrive in Australia over a
couple of years ."That's going to completely alter any plans we might
have for a managed population growth. "This is quite a dangerous
situation. We may be OK for food, but if others are not, we will cop the
backwash. "He says a range of issues have sparked current food
production problems. "Apart from the obvious things going on in the
world food markets, there's a colossal shortage of water emerging
because cities worldwide are pinching the farmers' water," he said.
"There's land degradation that's proceeded unabated for about 30 or 40
years now. We're losing land at the rate of 1 per cent of the world's
farmland every year. "We're running into energy shortages, we're running
into shortages of fertilisers, and on top of that you've got climate
change. All of these things are making the agricultural environment much
less certain. "Professor Cribb says governments should be doing a range
of things now to fix the problem. "They need to focus on recycling water
and nutrients, putting more science into agriculture to get farmers
better technology, stopping cities from stealing farmers' land and
water, paying farmers a better price so that they don't destroy the
environment that produces the food and opening up free trade in
agriculture," he said. "We really need to get on to this. Australia is
as much to blame as any other country for neglecting its agricultural
science. Let's face it, this is what keeps the people fed. "So if you
neglect that, you neglect the first and most important thing for any
country". MP's VOTE TO SAVE THEIR OWN HOUSE (From 'The Advertiser' 16/10/2009) Upper House MP's have over-whelmingly rejected an attempt to cut their numbers and the length of their terms. Liberal, Independent, and Family First MPs banded together yesterday to reject a Government Bill aimed at holding a referendum on their future at next year's election. Only the chamber's seven Labor MPs voted for the move. The Government had proposed a referendum at the March 2010 election which would have asked voters to approve reducing the number of Upper House MPs from 22 to 16 and reducing their terms from eight years to four. It had originally intended offering an option of total abolition of the chamber but this was dropped when the Government realised it was not going to get any support from voters. Attorney-General Michael Atkinson accused the Upper House of voting to save itself. "Those who voted against this Bill thought about their own necks well ahead of the public interest," he said. "Labor wanted to give the people of SA the chance to vote at a referendum about four year terms, a mechanism to break voting deadlocks and reducing the number of MP's". "The Government could not call a referendum on the issue without the passing of the Bills." "This meant that for reform to occur, the Legislative Council had to vote to reform itself." Opposition Leader in the Upper House David Ridgeway said the Liberals had opposed the move right from the outset, saying it was flawed. "It was always going to diminish representation and was an attack on democracy," he said."We had been promised several years to examine this proposal and it has been rushed in at the end of this session". Greens MP Mark Parnell used the defeat of what he said was a poorly conceived referendum Bill to call for genuine democratic reform of both House. "Without protections like an independent crime and corruption commission, the Upper House plays a critical role in keeping the power of the Government in check," he said. An 'Advertiser' poll in 2005 found only 16 per cent of voters favoured abolition. Almost two-thirds wanted reduced terms and numbers of MLCs. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Annelie Daly, One Nation Member in Canberra at the Floriade on the 30th September 2009 wearing her T-Shirt advertising the plight of the tortoise of the Lower Lakes. The slogan on the front says Hurry - Hurry -Hurry' Save the Murray and the Turtles. She wore this on most of our outings where there were large gatherings of people and it attracted lots of questions from interested people. Because Annelie has been very involved with the group at Milang in the plight of saving the tortoise she was able to answer the questions posed to her, she also gave a very interesting speech to the 47 people on the coach on our return trip home, some gave her donations to pass on to the people involved at the MOSH (Milang Old School House) where the tortoise are housed before they are eventually released. Many thousands have died because of the salinity and lack of water in the Lakes, they are heavily infested with Tube Worms which form on their shell and render them too heavy to walk and search for food, the poor things eventually die of starvation, they are being rescued as they are found and taken to the MOSH house at Milang where they are cleaned by the school children and also parents from the area and nursed in fresh water until they are able to be released further upstream in the Murray. *******************************************************
One of our members just recently visited
Clayton, near Milang to attend the 'fresh water wake'. The report given
is very interesting
When finished the water will no longer flow
through to the Murray Mouth, a very sad and deplorable situation, I only
wish there had been 2,000 people there to support it. Thousands and thousands of tonnes of soil are being carted in to do the walls and the cost would 'beggar belief', one person quoted "hundreds and hundreds of thousands of millions of dollars!!! All the money that these 'donkey's' have wasted on all the water issues would have been better spent on bringing water from the north of the nation and putting it into the Murray River further up stream. I am sure it would not have blown out to the amount that has been wasted doing all the stupid things the Rann Government has wasted it on to date. (We only saw one wall at Clayton, as the other two are 'out of reach' to the public) there are three being built down here at present. Plus the weir to be put at Wellington, plus the one they have already had built at Narrung.
Oh how money (when you have plenty of it) can do what ever you want!! A very, very sad sight to see indeed and the ruination of what was once a beautiful pristine fresh water lake and estuary.
SHAME SHAME SHAME TO THE
WHOLE RANN GOVERNMENT. Some of the signs the groups had made were amazing, I wish I had taken a few photos of them, one sign read, 'Rann's outlaw Lakie Gangs!!!' I am so fed up with it all, just does not make any sense at all, especially when we have all grown up with this fresh water area all our lives. I feel so sad for all the former producers that have just walked off their land because of this shocking situation. A radical proposal allowing voters to oust the Government early is being put forward by the opposition. NSW Liberal Leader Barry O'Farrell says he wants the Governor to be given the power to sack the Government, if voters believe it's under-performing. Mr O'Farrell has told 2GB's Alan Jones the recall provision is already used in parts of the US and Canada. "A recall position enables the public, the people that ultimately elect governments, to decide at any time during the term, if they're so motivated, to force another election". "We've got enormous frustration across the community at the moment, frustration relating to incompetence, to corruption, to laziness in some instances". "There is no mechanism in the four year terms". He said Labor has been abusing the state's constitution, which protects fixed four year term, to serve their own election prospects rather than the people of NSW". "What we've seen Labor do is perfect the system of only working in the last year, the year before the election and not putting in a full four year effort". Note : One Nation has long supported CIR which would allow for 'recall' to be forced by the people through a referendum call upon the Governor.
We must oppose the republican push and fight to retain our current constitutional monarchy. This system has served us well and it must be retained.
At present we now face a number of sharp challenges that have arisen due to a declining political situation:

SOME AUSTRALIAN FIRSTS The first Governor in Australia was Captain Arthur Phillip, who became Governor on the 26th of January when formal possession of the colony of New South Wales was made in 1788. The Hills Hoist : In 1946, Lance Hill welded pipes together in his shed in Adelaide and built a rotary clothes line able to be raised with a crank handle and strong enough for a child to swing on. Selling millions, it became the symbol of the suburban backyard. Parliament House, Canberra : First stones and bricks on the original building were laid in 1923. New Parliament House, Capital Hill, was commenced in 1981. Italian architect, Romaldo Giurgola, was the competition winner. It was opened 9th May 1988 by Queen Elizabeth. Juvenile Court : In 1890, the world's first closed court designed to protect young defendants from 'criminal taint' was set up in Adelaide. Old Age Pension : Commonwealth Government first introduced the old age pension on 1st July 1909. The first preferential voting system in the world was introduced by Queensland under the Electoral Act of the 5th of July, 1892. Capital Punishment In Australia Australia, in common with all Western countries (excluding the United States) officially abolished capital punishment nationwide in 1985. The Death Penalty Abolition Act was passed in 1973 and came into power on the day of its Royal Assention. The date of assent was September 18, 1973. The Abolition Act states - "a person is not liable to the punishment of death for any offence". Since abolition, the sentence of life imprisonment - in some states 'penal servitude for life', 'strict security life imprisonment', 'for the term of his natural life', or 'life without parole' - has become the most severe sanction authorised by Australian law. DID YOU KNOW. The longest-serving Australian Prime Minister is Sir Robert Menzies. Sir Robert had two leadership stints, first as leader of United Australia from April 1939 to August 1941. His second stint was as leader of the Liberal party from December 1949 to January 1966. In total, Menzies was in office for 6739 days, comfortably ahead of the next longest serving Prime Minister John Howard. Mr Howard served as Prime Minister as leader of the Liberal Party between March 1996 and December 2007, a total of 4285 days. The third longest serving Prime Minister is Bob Hawke. Mr Hawke served as Prime Minister as leader of the Australian Labor Party from March 1983 to December 1991, a total of 3207 days. POLITICAL HISTORY
