Dear Sir,

As one of four endorsed One Nation candidates for the next election, federal or South Australia, I cannot let Alexander Downer’s incorrect assertions pass unchallenged. (‘Advertiser ‘ 04/07/11)

One Nation is far from expired, as claimed by Mr. Downer, and to even suggest there is little difference between us and the Greens is just absurd.

We oppose just about everything the Greens represent, as do the Liberals and all other conservative parties.

It is disappointing that a former Liberal minister of the stature of Mr. Downer should join the denigration of One Nation by aligning it to what he says the Liberals now regard as dangerous extremists in the Greens.

One Nation is not a party of extremists and never has been.

Our policies and beliefs are based on commonsense to reflect the views and opinions of the majority of responsible adults, which is what struck fear into the Liberals and Labor when first expressed by Pauline Hanson.

Neither Liberals nor Labor pay much attention to public opinion when in government because they really do share some common goals not wanted by the majority of voters.

Mr. Downer singles out foreign investment in particular to align us wrongly with the Greens in opposing it.

What he and the Liberals, either in or out of government, have never done is look at the smaller picture of the social destruction that has been occurring for the past 40 years and continues unchecked.

Australia should be in control of its own destiny and not looking to the United Nations and other world bodies for direction on how it should run its affairs.

This is a commonsense view shared by most responsible voters but is totally unacceptable to the Liberals and Labor.

Dear Sir,

Perhaps it is not surprising that Alexander Downer does not listen to talkback radio, given his illustrious background as a former minister for foreign affairs in the Howard Government.

If he did he would be very aware that One Nation is far from expired, as he claimed in his feature. (Advertiser 04/07/11)

As a supporter of One Nation, I consider it an affront to the intelligence of the public generally to claim, as Mr. Downer did, that One Nation and the Greens have similar policies.

The Greens are seen by most people as tree hugging extremists who want to limit or ban all activity that would destroy nature, while removing constraints on moral behaviour.

Nobody in their right mind would accuse One Nation of holding the same views.

Dear Sir,

Over the past few months there have been several references in the print media to the One Nation legacy left by Pauline Hanson and its relevance to today’s politics.

I was therefore surprised and disappointed that someone like Alexander Downer should attempt to maintain the rage against One Nation by not only saying the party has expired but that its policies coincide with those of the Greens.

This is outrageously wrong on both counts.

One Nation is alive and well and the Greens are one of its political opponents.

Dear Sir,

I want to object to two points in particular made by Alexander Downer. (Advertiser 04/07/11).

One Nation and its spirit are alive and well, contrary  to the claim by Mr. Downer that it has expired.

The other point is his claim that One Nation’s policies are similar to those of the Greens.

From what I know about One Nation and what the Greens have in store for Australia, there is no similarity whatsoever between what One Nation would do in government and what the Greens would do.

It says little for Mr. Downer’s reputation to make such a misleading and odious comparison.
